The United States will not recognize the Russian passports issued in the militant-held areas of Donbas and the Russian-occupied Crimea. Kurt Volker, the Special Representative for Ukraine's Affairs said that as quoted by Radio Liberty.
According to him, issuing Russian passports in eastern Ukraine was 'a provocative step'.
Volker said he had doubts whether Ukrainians would get in lines to get these passports because they've 'suffered enough from the Russian occupation in Donbas'.
As is known, in April, Russian leader Putin signed the decree, which simplified the procedure of granting the Russian citizenship to residents of the occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Ukraine stated it would not recognize these passports; the EU member countries represented in the UN Security Council claimed such steps undermine Ukraine's sovereignty.
