The United States won’t negotiate on Ukraine without the participation of Ukraine, as U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker wrote on Twitter.

Volker emphasized that the U.S. will not negotiate about Ukraine without Ukraine and that he stays closely coordinated with the Ukrainian counterparts in the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukrainian Parliament, and colleagues from Germany and France.

As we reported earlier, Kurt Volker arrived in Ukraine on Jan. 23. His visit to Donbas might be cancelled due to bad weather conditions. However, the U.S. Special Representative met President Petro Poroshenko, Chief of the General Staff Viktor Muzhenko, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Oleksandr Turchynov and Minister on temporarily occupied territories and displaced persons Vadym Chernysh. The topic of discussion was the current situation in Donbas.

On Jan. 26, he is to meet aide to the President of Russia Vladislav Surkov in Dubai. The parties are to discuss the situation on the conflict in the East of Ukraine, as well as the prospects and possible format of deploying a UN peacekeeping mission in the region.
