The U.S. government has introduced sanctions against Russian vessel Fortuna, which lays the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The ship owner company, KVT-Rus is also facing restrictions now, reads the statement at the U.S. Treasury of the State website.
Besides, the sanctions are applied against Russian company Rustanker, as well as Maksim Gorky and Sierra tankers.
The U.S. authority expanded the sanctions against Russia within the CAATSA law. The restrictions include export sanctions, foreign exchange and banking transactions, blocking property and interests in property, and the ban on investment in equity or debt of a sanctioned person.
The White House informed the EU partners about the decision on Monday. The U.S. government said it hope that Germany would reconsider its position on the Russian gas pipeline. At the same time, the German side expressed its regret about the U.S. decision to sanction the Fortuna vessel.
