The US Treasury on September 26 decided to impose sanctions against eight North Korean banks, as well as 26 individuals who represent them in different countries. This is stated on the website of the US department.
It is noted that sanctions are imposed because of Pyongyang's missile and nuclear programs, as well as violations of UN Security Council resolutions.
Under the sanctions now are the banks: Agricultural Development Bank, Cheil Credit Bank, Hana Banking Corporation Ltd, International Industrial Development Bank, Jinmyong Joint Bank, Jinsong Joint Bank, Koryo Commercial Bank Ltd and Ryugyong Commercial Bank.
And there are also 26 representatives of North Korean banks in China, Russia, Libya and the UAE under restrictions.
"We are targeting North Korean banks and financial intermediaries representing North Korean banks around the world," US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said. "We are promoting our strategy to completely isolate North Korea in order to achieve the goals of a peaceful and non-nuclear Korean peninsula, which also corresponds to the resolutions of the UN Security Council."
As reported, the UN Security Council on September 11 unanimously adopted a resolution on the imposition of new sanctions against the DPRK.
