Head of the President’s Office of Ukraine Andriy Yermak is sure in the high estimation of the U.S. of the efforts of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky in the fight against the oligarchs as RBK-Ukraine reported.
Yermak could not answer the question of whether or not Zelensky and Biden mentioned during the talks in Washington the names of well-known Ukrainian oligarchs, for example, Ihor Kolomoysky. Anyway, the Head of the President’s Office did not know the topics of their talks.
“There are names that are on everyone's lips but we talk about the system that prevents Ukraine to move forward. I can talk about the part of the talks where I was present. The particular names were not announced but possibly, they could be announced during tete-a-tete communication between the presidents,” Yermak said.
A meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took place in Washington on September 1. During a visit to Washington, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky handed over to U.S. leader Joe Biden a list of 450 prisoners who are in the uncontrolled territories of Donbas, Crimea, as well as in Russia.
On July 1, the Ukrainian Parliament supported the draft law on de-oligarchization in this country. 275 MPs supported the respective bill.
According to the document, a person can be recognized an oligarch by the decision of the National Security and Defense Council. The respective appeals can be filed by the Cabinet of Ministers, National Bank of Ukraine, Security Service or the Anti-Monopoly Committee of Ukraine. Such people will be added to the official register of oligarchs who are now also called "individuals with significant economic or political weight in political life".
