US, EU discuss Russian military buildup on Ukraine's border

Wendy Sherman, the US Deputy Secretary of State met with the ambassadors of EU Committee for security and policy to discuss the non-provoked buildup of the Russian military along the border with Ukraine. Ned Price, the press secretary of the US Department of the State reported that on January 11.

Sherman shared with EU diplomats some details of the US-Russia dialogue about strategic stability that took place in Geneva on January 10. 

The negotiators in Brussels confirmed the unwavering support of the United States and the EU for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Sherman praised the EU Committee for its work to provide guarantees for the continuation of actions against Russia, including sanctions that would cost the country heavily in the event of a further military invasion of Ukraine.

As is known, Russia commenced large-scale shooting exercises on firing ranges next to the border with UkraineInterfax news agency reported that on January 11. Some 3,000 men and 300 vehicles are involved, including T-72 main battle tanks, BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles, as well as standard small arms.
