US Embassy demands that Russia release Ukrainian reporter Aseev

The so-called 'Donetsk People's Republic' sentenced the political prisoner to 15 years in jail

The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv demanded Russia to set Stanislav Aseev free; as is known, on October 22, the self-proclaimed "DNR" (Donetsk People's Republic) sentenced the Ukrainian reporter and publicist to 15 years behind the bars. 

The respective statement of the American dimplomatic institution appeared on Twitter.

"We are deeply concerned by reports that journalist Stanislav Aseyev has been sentenced by the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic” to 15 years in prison. We call on Russia & the forces it backs to immediately release him & other Ukrainians who have been unjustly detained", it says.

Aseev was found guilty of a number of crimes under the articles "organization of extremist community", "espionage", "incitement to espionage", "public calls for carrying out extremist activities" and "public calls for actions aimed at violating the territorial integrity".

It was stated that  from March 2015 to May 2017 Aseev "carried out a visual search of places of deployment of its “People's Militia” units and transmitted the obtained information via the Internet to the representatives of the State Security Service of Ukraine, knowing that the collected data will be used against the security of the “self-proclaimed Republic”.
