The United States deployed Patriot SAMs in Lithuania – for the first time in the Baltic States; this is due to the ongoing NATO exercise Tobruq Legacy 2017 held in the Baltic States. DW reported that with the reference to Lithuania‘s Defense Ministry.
The weapons were stationed within U.S. ‘commitments to maintain Lithuania’s independence’; besides, Pentagon said it was ready to send more forces to the region.
The NATO exercise will be running until July 22; it is simultaneously hosted by Lithuania, Romania and the Czech Republic. 450 servicemen from Lithuanla, Poland, the Great Britain and the U.S. are taking part. The military practice joint response actions in case of a possible sudden attack by Russian troops in the Baltic States.
Russia and Belarus are going to hold their own joint exercises – West 2017, slated for September.
