U.S. convenes urgent sessions of UN authorities due to Iran protests

The United States urged UN Security Council and the UN Council for Human Rights to hold urgent sessions because of the ongoing large-scale riots in Iran. Associated Press reported that quoting Nikki Haley, the U.S. permanent representative in the UN.  

‘Nowhere is the urgency of peace, security, and freedom being tested more than in Iran,’ she said, adding that the sessions of the mentioned UN authorities will be convened in the next few days.

The protests in Iran have been underway for seven days now, as activists show outrage towards the dictatorship of the supreme leader Ali Khamenei; in dozens of cities, people set on fire administrative buildings and police vehicles. The media report at least 20 fatalities in the street fights.
