The United States have been looking into option to send the battleships to the Black Sea over the next few weeks, as tension between Ukraine and Russia grows. CNN reported that on April 9.

Commenting on the idea, the Pentagon claimed that the US Navy are usually present in the Black Sea, but deploying combat vessels now will become "a signal for Moscow".

The U.S. is obliged to inform the sides about their intention to enter the Black Sea 14 days prior to the action. At that, it is Turkey who is in control of the Bosphorus strait, and it is unclear yet if the Turkish government was notified.
