Representatives of the U.S. Congress and Ukraine's Minister of Defense Andriy Zahorodniuk discussed the military support and fight against corruption in the country during the meeting. The press service of the Ukrainian military institution reported that.
"We arrived with the purpose to give an important and clear message - the United States supports Ukraine. The U.S. Congress supports the efforts of your country in fighting against armed aggression of the Russian Federation," Head of the delegation John Garamendi stated.
The sides considered possible extension of military and technical cooperation between two countries during the discussion of the priority directions of assistance for Ukraine.
Andriy Zahorodniuk expressed gratitude to the US for the consistent support of Ukraine and stressed the importance of further cooperation with the US Congress.
Noting the importance of US technical assistance provided to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Zahorodniuk welcomed the decision of the US Department of State on the readiness to implement a project on the sale of modern lethal weapons within the framework of the program “Foreign Military Sales”.
The anti-corruption fight has also become one of the key topics for discussion. Zahorodniuk informed the U.S. about main activities of the defense sector in combating corruption, especially in the procurement sphere.
