Members of the US Congress proposed to unite sanctions against the Russian Federation and North Korea, reports Reuters.
"Republicans in the House of Representatives of the US Congress proposed to combine draft laws on sanctions against Russia and the DPRK. In their view, this should strengthen the final document," the report said.
Note that this initiative of Republicans was voiced by the leader of the majority in the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy. He noted that the draft law on restrictive measures against the DPRK passed almost all the necessary procedures in the lower house in May, and a decision on sanctions against Russia could be added to it.
According to the publication, the senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Congressman Democrat Eliot Engel criticized the proposal.
"I understand only that they (the Republicans - ed.) are trying to "kill" the bill on imposing sanctions against Russia," Engel said.
At the same time, according to the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives Ed Royce, the union of bills on the DPRK and Russia is one of several options that are under consideration.
