The U.S. Congress Group for Media Freedom urges the militants of Donbas to set Stanislav Aseev free; the Ukrainian reporter has been held in captivity for more than a year now. According to Radio Liberty, the co-chairmen of the group Adam Schiff and Steve Chabot released the respective statement on August 8.

The congressmen are 'deeply concerned' that the Kremlin-supported groups of self-styled 'Donetsk People's Republic' hold the reporter in detention since June 2017. According to them, Aseev is 'one of the few independent journalists that stayed in the separatist-controlled area in order to provide objective information'.

The officials described this situation as 'horrible', since Aseev went on a hunger strike in June.

In September 2017, the mercenaries included Aseev in the exchange list; however, the actual exchange did not take place, and the reporter remained in captivity.
