According to official withdrawal procedure from the Paris climate agreement, United States will have to wait at least until late 2020. This was reported by ABC News agency, referring to Article 28 of the accord.
The country must wait three years in order to be eligible to withdraw from Paris accord after it announced such intention. Then the State would have to wait an extra year for the formal notice of withdrawal to take effect. Thus the US will formally be a party to the deal at least until late 2020, shortly after the next presidential election, the message reads.
However, the White House may ignore its pledges on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as the commitments are not legally binding.
