The US government has condemned the attack on Mercer Street oil tanker that occurred in the northern part of the Indian ocean. The White House assumes Iran could be behind the assault. This is mentioned in the respective statement of the Department of the State.

"Upon review of the available information, we are confident that Iran conducted this attack, which killed two innocent people, using one-way explosive UAVs, a lethal capability it is increasingly employing throughout the region", the authority claimed.

According to the Department of the State, such actions threaten the free navigation along this vital water route, as well as to international navigation, trade, and the lives of these ships' crews.
