U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the United States will not allow Moscow to use energy as a lever of pressure on Europe and, together with Britain, will try to prevent further expansion of the Nord Stream-2 project. This is reported by Voice of America.

“After using chemical weapons in Salisbury, we, along with our other allies, fought back, we punished Russia with sanctions. We wanted the world to know that the use of chemical weapons is unacceptable, and our countries that value the rule of law will not tolerate this", said Pompeo.

During a lecture given by the Secretary of State at the Center for Political Science at Lancaster House, Mike Pompeo said that London and Washington considered the construction of the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline "to use energy as a lever of pressure on Europe." He stressed that the United States and Great Britain "should not allow this to happen." The head of the State Department called on the British allies "for close cooperation in this direction."

Pompeo arrived in London today to discuss with Foreign Minister Jeremy Hunt and Prime Minister Teresa May the development of ties between the United States and Great Britain after the kingdom left the European Union.
U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell has resumed sanctions threats against German companies that are participating in the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline across the bottom of the Baltic Sea. FOCUS reported that.

“From the American point of view, the gas pipeline will provide not only gas, but also an increased risk of sanctions,” Grenell said.

He warned that European countries would become dependent on Russia because of the pipeline.

Among the German companies participating in the Nord Stream-2 project are the Uniper energy group and the oil and gas producer Wintershall Dea.

It is not the first time that Grenell has publicly demonstrated the position of the United States regarding the Nord Stream-2. In January, he even sent a letter to a number of German companies, in which he declared "a significant risk of sanctions" in connection with the implementation of the gas pipeline project.
