US Ambassador to Russia John Huntsman said that US sanctions against Moscow would be lifted after the resolution of the Ukrainian question. The main task, according to Huntsman, is to stop violence in Donbas, Vedomosti reports.

"If we can resolve the issue with Ukraine, namely, come to an agreement that will suit both sides, we will get a positive result," Huntsman said in an interview with the St. Petersburg television channel.

He added that the United States imposed sanctions against Russia because of the situation in Ukraine, because "these are issues of international law and territorial integrity," which are important for Washington and the entire world community.

Huntsman said that the purpose of his work in Russia is to move forward in the normalization of relations between Moscow and Washington, in particular, the strengthening of trust between countries.
