US Ambassador to Estonia James D. Melville, Jr. resigned because of statements of US President Donald Trump about US allies in Europe. This statement he made on his Facebook page, the post was only available to his friends in the social network, reported on Saturday, June 30, portal ERR.ee.

As the reason for his resignation, he called the contradictory statements of US President Donald Trump to NATO and European allies.

"When the president says that the European Union was created in order to" use the US, attack our piggy bank, "or that" NATO is as bad as NAFTA, "it is not only incorrect in fact, but also proves that the time has come leave", the ambassador of the USA in Estonia has noted.

According to the US media, the ambassador's decision was a surprise for some officials from the US State Department.

According to Melville, his last working day is July 29, although the Trump administration has not yet chosen his successor.

Melville is a professional diplomat who for 33 years worked in various positions. He became Estonian ambassador in 2015 during the presidency of Barack Obama. In any case, Melville had to resign, but in his message he stressed that the decision to leave the post ahead of schedule was due to the behavior and statements of the current US president.

Note, earlier the media reported that allegedly Trump suggested that France withdraw from the EU in exchange for more favorable trading conditions.
