US Senate stresses non-recognition of illegal attempt to annex Crimea and urges to maintain sanctions on Russia. Text of the resolution was published by U.S. Senators Rob Portman (Republican) and Sherrod Brown (Democrat).

Senators have presented the draft resolution following "Three-Year Anniversary of Annexation of Crimea". A dozen Senators from Republican and Democratic parties were co-authors of the resolution.

"The illegal Russian military occupation of the Crimea region of Ukraine is an affront to international norms, an unprovoked aggression, and a threat to regional stability," the message reads.

Senate also reaffirms its commitment to the principles of Budapest Memorandum and "reiterates that it is the policy of the United States not to recognize the de jure or de facto sovereignty of the Russian Federation over Crimea or any other seized area in Ukraine, its airspace, or its territorial waters".

American lawmakers also advocate for continuous support of Ukraine, including increased economic sanctions, defensive lethal assistance, and democracy and humanitarian assistance.
