UNBA: Condemned for spying Ukrainian is not allowed to see his lawyer

A lawyer is not allowed to Ihor Kyiashko who was detained in Russia in April, as the Ukrainian National Bar Council press office reports.

Reportedly, the Russian investigators condemned Ihor Kyiashko, a lawyer for spying and smuggling attempt. Kyiashko made an agreement on legal assistance with Yevhen Hubin, a lawyer on June 19, 2018. Investigators of the Russian Federal Security Service on Nizhny Novgorod region didn’t allow Hubin to the defendant. All Investigative actions were held in the presence of the court-appointed lawyer. Kyiashko waived his services.

Hubin addressed Ilya Novikov, the head of the UNBA representative in Russia and claimed he cant get access to the documents and contact the investigator. Hubin assumes that he is purposely not allowed to defend the citizen of Ukraine by the Deputy Head of the Investigation Department.

Lidiya Izovitova, the Head of UNBA has already referred a treatment to the Russian Federal Chamber of Lawyers on ensuring smooth implementation of the advocacy and removing the violation Hubin’s rights.

Reportedly, Ihor Kyiashko, a Ukrainian lawyer was detained in Nizhniy Novgorod region on April 10. He was charged for smuggling attempt and spying. In particular, he was accused of trying to acquire tools of aviation engines and the copies of technical documentation about the radar station which is a part of the man-portable air defense systems.
