UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced UN support for Ukraine regarding restoring peace in Donbas, as well as regarding reforms. He said this during a meeting with Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman in Kyiv on Sunday, July 9.
"We feel the obligation to continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, continue to provide support to facilitate the lives of internally displaced persons (you noted that there are 1.7 million of them), and to alleviate the suffering of those people who live close to the line of contact and who are victims of the situation. And we are also for your service and we are ready to give full support to the Ukrainian government in carrying out reforms, "he said.
The United Nations and Ukraine have been cooperating for more than 70 years. After the annexation of Crimea and armed clashes in Donbas, the Organization continued to provide assistance to Ukraine, including humanitarian aid for residents of the eastern region. The last time, 30 trucks with humanitarian aid were sent to the zone of conflict.
