UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called to cease the military escalation and violence in the south-western part of Syria. This is stated in the document of his official representative.

"The Secretary-General is seriously concerned about the recent military escalation, including ground-based offensives and bombings in south-west Syria," the statement said.

Guterres called for an end to the escalation of the conflict, and all interested parties - to observe the international obligations imposed on them, including the protection of civilians and infrastructure.

Earlier U.S. authorities ended assistance programs in north-west Syria, as CBS News reports referring to the source.

According to the news agency, the U.S. was allocating resources each year to “stabilize local community” and to “help the independent community and mass media” in the region.

As it was noted, European states were informed on the U.S. decision.

Besides, the experts of the TV channel are concerned that the U.S. will leave the region. According to them, this will make other states to reconsider their presence in Syria.

Earlier, the mass media informed that the U.S. Administration decided to freeze funding the White Helmets non-governmental organization.
