There's a need for reform of the United Nations, as this makes it possible to increase the effectiveness of peacekeeping activities. Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko said that while holding a speech during the session of the UN General Assembly

'A new quality of peacekeeping should meet the world’s expectations and hopes. The Secretary-General’s initiative to strengthen the bond between all peacekeeping stakeholders is exactly what our Organization requires in order to make this instrument more effective and reliable,' the Head of State said as quoted by his press service.

He added that Ukraine welcomed and supported the UN Secretary-General's efforts 'to implement a robust UN reform aimed at strengthening its peace and security architecture'.

Poroshenko reiterated that last year, as the Security Council’s summit was underway, the parties were unanimous in terms of reforming the UN peacekeeping endeavor. He expressed hope that 'the Declaration endorsed by so many states, including Ukraine as an active troop-contributor, will reinforce this collective commitment'.

The Ukrainian president assured that his country remains committed to the UN peacekeeping initiatives, and the commitment, hopefully, 'will not be shaken even when the country itself is under attack'.

'Ukraine will remain a reliable partner in our common peacekeeping endeavor,' Poroshenko concluded.
