The Crimean prosecutor's office warns Ukrainian citizens that if they participate in organizing the conduct of Russian elections in the annexed Crimea, they will be punished. This was stated by the deputy prosecutor of Crimea Olexander Udovychenko.

"If this is a citizen of Ukraine, in case of proof of his guilt, he may face punishment for high treason, which provides up to 15 years of imprisonment and responsibility for the illegal conduct of elections, which the Criminal Code also qualifies as a crime," Udovychenko said.

In addition, the prosecutor's office noted that the citizens of Russia who will take part in organizing and holding elections on the peninsula are also threatened with harassment under articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine about the seizure of state power and encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Earlier, the prosecutor's office urged Crimeans not to participate in the organization of presidential elections of neighboring Russia in the annexed Crimea. The Prosecutor's Office of Crimea can bring to responsibility 10 thousand members of election commissions.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister said that Kyiv sent a note of protest to Moscow because of the Russian president's election in the occupied Crimea.

The presidential elections in Russia will be held on March 18, 2018. According to Russian laws, presidential elections should be held on the second Sunday in March. In 2018, according to these rules, they had to pass on March 11, but they were postponed for a week, so that the voting day coincided with the anniversary of the annexation of Crimea. Such a step, according to the plan of the presidential administration, should help increase the turnout at the elections.
