Iran tanker was detained near Gibraltar. There are Ukrainians in the crew, as BBC News Ukraine reported citing Director of Consular Service Department of Foreign Minister Vasyl Kyrylych.
Totally, there are 28 members of the crew, mostly the citizens of India and some of them from Pakistan and Ukraine. Reuters wrote that, citing Gibraltar authorities. However, the exact number of Ukrainians is unknown; there could be two or three people.
Ukrainian Consul appealed to the police, customs bodies and captaincy of Gibraltar. Port administration confirmed that there are citizens of Ukraine in the crew.
The local law enforcement bodies consider the members of the crew as witnesses, not offenders.
The authority of overseas U.K. territory thinks that the tanker was transporting raw oil to refinery in Syria. It is a violation of the U.K. and U.S. sanctions.
Earlier crew members of Frontline’s oil tanker Front Altair, one of two vessels attacked in the Gulf of Oman, landed in Dubai.
