The Ukrainian Parliament supported the draft law No.4225, the one about the creation of National memorial military cemetery. 304 MPs supported the document, with 226 necessary to pass.
According to this intiative, the construction of the cemetery is ordered by the Ministry for Veterans' Affairs. The graveyard will host solemn ceremonies of burial and re-burial of Ukrainian freedom fighters of the past century, Ukrainian warriors who deceased in combat or succumbed to the wounds they suffered in action, and citizens who have special merits before the country.
The National memorial military cemetery is the state property and cannot be privatized or passed for rent. The issue of allocation of the land parcel to be occupied by the cemetery is solved according to the Land Code of Ukraine.
The government will pay for the construction works; it will also compensate for any possible acts of vandalism or other sorts of desecration of graves. The government funds will also cover the matters of security and cleaning of the graveyard.
Former top- and middle rank officials of the Communist Party and Soviet security service workers cannot be buried on this cemetery.
