Ukrainian Ombudswoman’s press service reported that Valeriya Lutkovska sent a letter to her Russian counterpart Tatyana Moskalkova, offering her to effectively investigate tortures against Mykola Karpyuk. The Ukrainian citizen was detained in Russia in March 2014 and charged with participation in military actions against Russian federal army during the First Chechen War of 1994-1995.
Lutkovska also urged the Russian ombudswoman to investigate “cruel and inhumane attitude” to Karpyuk. “Such facts should be duly investigated, and the guilty ones should be punished”, she noted.
