Admiral Ihor Voronchenko, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Navy arrived in Washington, where he is to meet a number of high-rank military officials, including John Richardson, the U.S. Admiral and the Chief of Naval Operations. Voice of America reported this on early Friday.
The central topic for discussion would be the Russian aggression against the Ukrainian naval group in the Kerch Strait. In particular, U.S. President Donald Trump previously said he wanted to know if Ukraine warned Russia before moving its ships towards the strait.
Apart from the incident, Ukraine and the U.S. are to discuss the bilateral cooperation in the security area, as well as the implementation of the new strategy of the Ukrainian Navy.
'The U.S. government has been closely cooperating with the allies and partners in Europe and worldwide to support Ukraine's aspirations for the diplomatic and peaceful solution of the Russian aggression, including the recent non-provoked assault on the Ukrainian ships in the Black Sea. The leaders of U.S. Department of Defense shall confirm the support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, which include the territorial waters and the right of the Ukrainian ships to use the international naval routes.
