The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses the strong protest against the decision of the Supreme Court of Russia of July 27 to increase the term of the imprisonment of Ruslan Zeitullayev to 15 years. He was illegally convicted under the cooked-up charges in the creation of the terrorist organization and holding of the terrorist activity in the territory of the temporary occupied Crimea. The press service of Foreign Ministry reported this.

‘The show trial of Ruslan Zeitullayev organized by the Russia side is the bright example of the usage of the repressions against the Crimean nation and violations of the fundamental human rights and liberties by the occupation authorities. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine demands from Russian side to immediately stop the persecution of the peaceful citizens of Ukraine and execute the order of the UN International Court of Justice concerning the stop of the illegal actions towards the representatives of Crimean nation’, the message stated.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry urges the world community ‘to condemn the dehumanized and illegal activity of the judicial authorities of Russia and strengthen the political and diplomatic pressure at the state-aggressor to release all citizens of Ukraine who are illegally confined in Russia and in the territory of the temporary occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea’.  

The Supreme Court of Russia sentenced Crimean Tatar Ruslan Zeitullayev to 15 years of imprisonment with the restriction for a year after the served punishment.

Earlier, Zeitullayev urged the Russian bloggers and journalists to objectively report on his judicial trial. He handed over the appeal to his advocate Emil Kurbedinov.

In September 2016, North Caucasus military district court announced verdicts in cases of four Crimean Tatars - Ruslan Zeitullayev, Ferat Saifullayev, Rustem Vagitov and Nuri Primov. All four were detained the Russian-annexed Crimea under charges of ‘terrorism’ and alleged membership in Hizb-Ut Tahrir, the infamous terrorist organization. They were also accused of creating a cell of this organization in Crimea.

The Supreme Court of Russia vacated the sentence of Zeitullayev and ordered the retrial on December 27. The Prosecutor of Russian requested to17 years of imprisonment for Zeitullayev.

The North Caucasus military district court sentenced Zeitullayev to 12 years of imprisonment at the colony with the strict regime on April 26.
