27 Ukrainians are currently on the Russian territory. Their cases are highly controlled by MFA as politically motivated. Andriy Zayats, State Secretary of MFA claimed this during a briefing, 112 Ukraine reports.
‘There are 27 Ukrainian citizens detained in Russia. Their cases are highly monitored by the ministry and the leadership of the State. They are politically motivated convictions. Two cases are under our special control: the case of Oleg Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko since the Russian side keeps ignoring our requests for provision of information on the health condition of the Ukrainians,’ he claimed.
Also, he claimed, as of now, the Consular Service released nine Ukrainian political prisoners. Yuriy Yatsenko in 2015, Nadiya Savchenko, Yuriy Soloshenko, Hennadiy Afanasyev, Yurii Ivanchenko and Khaiser Dzhemiliev in 2016, Akhtem Chiygoz and Ilmi Umerov in 2017 and Oleksandr Kolchenko in 2018.
Reportedly, Ukrainian political prisoner Oleksandr Kostenko who was released on August 3 arrived with consuls to Ukrainian Embassy in Moscow.
Oleksandr Kostenko, the Ukrainian political prisoner, walks free, as he left Russian penal colony No.5 in Kirovo-Chepetsk, Kirov Oblast. He was accused of that he allegedly injuring the officer of Berkut Special Forces Unit. Also, the activist was accused of storage of weapons
He arrived in Kyiv today, on August 6.
‘The President congratulated him on the phone with the release the last Friday. A couple of hours ago he successfully went through the customs and he is on the Ukranian territory right now. Hopefully, he will be able to see his family in the evening. His mother arrived in Kyiv on that occasion,’ Zayats claimed.
According to MFA, totally, 2.3 thousand Ukrainians have been detained in Russia for the last three years.
