Ukrainian judge Anna Yudkovska was elected President of the Section and Bureau member of the European Court for Human Rights (ECHR). Georgiy Logvynsky, Ukraine’s MP and Deputy Head for Ukraine’s Permanent PACE Mission, reported this as quoted by RBC Ukraine.

Yudkovska will be chairing in all sessions led by the Section; she will join the line-up of the Grand Chamber during consideration of all cases by the Court, and also examine appeals for the Grand Chamber’s reconsideration of decisions made by the ECHR.

The judges representing the so-called ‘young democracies’ rarely get elected for this office; Anna Yudkovska became the second ECHR judge representing a non-EU Eastern European country in the Court’s history.
