Kyiv law enforcers have exposed the Ukrainian hacker suspected in the virus attacks at over 100 foreign companies. The hacker inflected harm for $150 million as the Interior Ministry reported.

“The cyber police officers have exposed the Ukrainian hackers in the commitment of the virus attacks at over 100 foreign companies,” the message says.

According to the investigation, a 25-year-old hacker spread the malicious software for further extortion of money from foreign companies for the restoration of data.

The virus entered the system through software cracking for remote work of the user with the PC, as well as spamming. After the entrance to the computer systems, the virus coded the data and the companies had to pay to restore the access.

According to the investigation, over 100 foreign companies suffered as the result of the cyber attacks, including famous energy and tourist companies, as well as the developers of equipment with the harm inflected for over $150 million.

The law enforcers established that a man had an accomplice, who helped to siphon off money obtained through illicit way. Within the investigation, the law enforcers held a number of searches, during which $360,000, computer equipment, mobile terminals and vehicles were seized. Moreover, $1.3 million were blocked in crypto-wallet of a man.

As we reported, a hacker stole over $600 million from the Poly Network finance platform.
