Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba says that Ukraine does not intend to break off diplomatic relations with Belarus or reduce the level of its diplomatic representation in Minsk. Kuleba stated this in an interview with BBC News Ukraine.
“I see no reason to break off diplomatic relations or to lower the presence of Ukraine in Belarus to the level of a chargé d'affaires, as we have with Russia,” Kuleba said.
This means that the Ukrainian ambassador will continue his work in Belarus.
However, the only official channel of communication between Kyiv and the current Belarusian authorities will only be the Foreign Ministry.
At the same time, Kuleba said that Ukraine plans to join the EU sanctions against Belarus.
As we reported before, the EU deploys sanctions against Minsk so as to put pressure on Alexander Lukashenko.
Governments of the EU member countries agreed to freeze assets and introduce trave bans for some 40 officials.
