Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Liliia Grynevych announced the date of the negotiations between Ukraine and Hungary on ‘Law on Education’. The meeting is planned for October 19. She claimed this at the airing of 112 Ukraine.
‘We meet with the Minister of Education of Romania on September 27 and the meeting with the Education Minister of Hungary is planned for October 19. I hope that during the meetings we will have not only the political talk but also the professional, pedagogic and educational talk’, she said.
Earlier Grynevych claimed that the meetings with the Ministers of Hungary and Romania are agreed.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Szijjarto claimed that the government of Hungary decided to block all further decisions of the EU that aim for the rapprochement of the EU with Ukraine due to the ‘Law on Education’.
President Petro Poroshenko signed the law of Ukraine #2145 VII ‘On Education’ on September 25. Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Russia and Moldova expressed the protests towards the law
The law provides 12 years of studying for the pupils, the wages for the teachers in a number of the minimum wages (363 dollars) and the gradual wage increase.
The article on the language of the education for the national minorities and core nations of Ukraine became the most disputable. The law prohibits the existence of the schools with the teaching in languages of the national minorities and core nations. It gives them a possibility to create the forms in the Ukrainian-language schools where the pupils will be taught in the language of the national minority along with the national language.
The learning of the language of the core nation or national minority is guaranteed in the schools or via the national cultural communities. It is possible to create the conditions for the learning of the language of the core nation or national minority as the separate discipline in the university.
The exception to the common rule is the pupils of the national minority who began their studying until September 1, 2018. They can study according to the old rules until September 1, 2020, and then the number of the subjects in the Ukrainian language will be gradually increased.
