The military of the sea guard of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine have detected the Project 22160 patrol ship of the Russian fleet in Chornomorsk area, Odesa region on May 12 as Ukrinform reported Border Guard Service’s Spokesperson Natalya Humenyuk.
“In the morning, May 12, the military of the border post in Odesa region took the bearing of the Project 22160 patrol ship Pavel Derzhavin of the Russian Black Sea Fleet at the distance of 19 miles to the east of Chornomorsk city, Odesa region,” Natalya Humenyuk reported.
According to Humenyuk, after the detection of an unknown object, the border guards with the help of the radio locator of the coastal border post has requested the vessel and received an answer that it is Bugel 363.
“Such call sign belongs to the patrol ship of the Black Sea Fleet of Russia with side number 363 – Pavel Derzhavin,” she said.
It is noted that the Russian corvette after the detection with the radio locator started to move at the direction of the Crimean peninsula.
The border guards do not exclude that the stay of the Russian corvette near the coast of Chornomorsk might be tied with the fact that the vessel accompanied the frigate of the United States Coast Guard Hamilton (WLc-753) that left Odesa in the evening on May 11.
On April 17, two Russian warships transited the Bosphorus en route to the Black Sea on Saturday and 15 smaller vessels completed a transfer to the sea as Moscow beefs up its naval presence at a time of tense relations with the West and Ukraine.
