Vorskla Poltava from Ukraine and Azerbaijan's Qarabag FC sorted things out in the Round 4 game of the group stage of UEFA Europa League. It was a home game for the Ukrainian team, which needed three points to claim a decent chance to proceed into the competition's playoffs.
It definitely went south for Vorskla yet in the first half. Goalkeeper Bohdan Shust downed Maksim Medvedev in the penalty area, and Araz Abdullayev managed to open the score with a successful penalty kick.
Poor turf conditions didn't let the players show any decent skills, and, thus, put up an interesting match. In the second half, supporters lit firecrackers and smoke pellets, forcing the referee to suspend the game twice; however, the teams played until the full time.
The home defeat leaves Vorskla on the third place in its group.
Another Ukrainian team succeeded in its Thursday fixture in UEFA Europa League; Dynamo hosted Stade de Rennais at NSC Olimpiysky. The home team dominated throughout the entire game; Verbic opened the score in the first half, and his teammates Mykolenko and Shaporenko carried on in the second. The French only managed to hit back once, with Siebatcheu making it 3-1; thus, Dynamo could not boast a clean sheet. But, it's still a win for Aleksandr Khatskevich's men - and still the second place in Group K of UEFA Europa League.
On November 29, Dynamo will cross swords with Astana FC; the Kazakh team won the first leg, and Dynamo will try hard to get its revenge.
