Ukraine's Supreme Court refuses to reconsider sentence of Russian soldier Ageev

The High Specialized Court of Ukraine for Civil and Criminal Cases refused to consider the sentence of Russian soldier Viktor Ageev imprisoned for 10 years. Viktor Chevhuz, his lawyer reported this to Ukrainian News.

“I filed the cassation appeal but the Supreme Court refused to consider it, stating there are no grounds,” he said.

The proper decision was made by a court in May. Ageev is still at Starobilsk remand center in Luhansk region.

Viktor Ageev was detained in Donbas and he confirmed that he was in the military of the Russian Armed Forces. At the moment Ageev is detained at the Starobelsk detention center. His mother came to Ukraine and was allowed a meeting with her son. He is accused of terrorism and faces 8-15 years of the imprisonment.

As we reported the Ukrainian citizens released from the captivity of the pro-Russian militants of Donbas started to receive the compensations. 

As we reported earlier, the last big exchange of prisoners took place in Donbas on Dec. 27. Then, 73 Ukrainians were released in exchange for 233 militants. The parties discussed the possibility of the next one and submitted the lists of individuals on Jan. 18 in Minsk.
