The sanctions against Russia work, but the democratic and economic success of Ukraine will be a real disaster for Russia. This was announced by the Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok in his interview for Interfax.
Asked about the effectiveness of sanctions against Russia, Brok said:
“I believe that sanctions work, but it needs time. At the same time, there is a belief in their effectiveness. We have recently decided to extend the sanctions to once again show: aggression is expensive. ”
The work within Ukraine is important – the building of democracy and the rule of law, he also stressed.
"EU has given a lot of money in the form of grants and loans for these purposes: the amount goes for billions. It is important to reform the judicial system, to modernize many areas. I think that the worst thing that can happen to Russia it is if Ukraine becomes democratic and economically successful state where there is a rule of law. It will be a disaster for the Kremlin, and, therefore, it is very important to make all the reform. In this regard Ukraine has made significant progress, " he said.
The goal of Russian aggression is to destabilize the situation in Ukraine. Therefore, EU must continue the reform process to prevent this destabilization, according to him.
Earlier it was reported that Groysman and Brok discussed reforms and state budget 2107. Groysman announced agreement in EU supporting reforms in Urkaine.
