The State Council for TV and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine decided to ban the Russian TV channel Dozhd’ from further broadcasting via Ukrainian TV providers. The respective decision was made at the authority’s session on Thursday.
The decision was made due to the fact that the medium ‘ignored Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and broadcasted Russian advertisement’.
‘Specifically, the administrative border between Kherson region and Crimea was showed as the state border between Ukraine and Russia,’ Serhiy Kostynsky, the member of the Council, said at the session.
Throughout 2016, the State Council has reported a number of violations of Ukrainian law committed by the channel; reporters illegally visited the occupied Crimea, and Russian ads were repeatedly showed on air.
