Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation launched pre-trial investigation after journalists published information about the bribing of law enforcement officials. The deputy chief of the SBI Olha Varchenko reported this on her Facebook page.
The investigators of the SBI started a pre-trial investigation of receiving a large bribe by an official, or by previous agreement by a group of people, committed twice, or by extortion of illicit enrichment.
In case the guilt of law enforcement officials is proved, they will face sentence of deprivation of the right to hold certain positions from 5 to 10 years or engage in certain activities for up to 3 years with confiscation of property.
As it was reported earlier, on March 11, the final investigation of Bihus.info called “For how much the defense cases were dropped. The role of SBU, NABU and Prosecutor's Office (secret correspondence, p. 4-5). The new release allegedly uncovers the sums paid for blocking the pre-trial investigation and holding accountable those involved in schemes in defense sector purchases.
According to the journalists, the deals with the State Fiscal Service, General Prosecutor's Office, Security Service (SBU) and National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) took place.
On February 25, journalist investigations Bihus.Info, Nashi Hroshi program alleged that Igor Gladkovsky, the son of close Poroshenko ally Oleh Gladkovsky, deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, organized a corruption scheme to smuggle spare military-equipment parts from Russia in 2015. State defense facilities purchased the smuggled spare parts from private companies linked to Hladkovsky and his friends at highly inflated prices. Ukroboronprom state concern, which supervises defense industry production facilities, knew the origin of the smuggled parts but agreed to purchase them.
