The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine is making the preparations necessary for the due border control in conditions of the possible visa regime with Russia. Oleg Slobodyan, the speaker of the State Border Guard said that as quoted by UNN news agency.
'We're ready for such kind of border control that involves biometric IDs. We've been working with the biometric documents since 2017 and processing the biometric data since 2018. There's no trouble with that', Slobodyan stated.
According to him, since the beginning of the year, 12,000 foreign citizens had their fingerprints taken; 11,000 of those are Russian citizens. In 2018, the number of Russians who had their fingerprints taken made 500,000.
Previously, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin supported the implementation of biometric visa regime with Russia. According to him, this would be the only way to actually control who and how crosses the Ukrainian border when coming from Russia.
