Ukraine's SBU (state security service) has prevented the murder attempt, as Russian agents tried to assassinate one of the ex-commanders of a Ukrainian army battalion. Chief of the press centre of the SBU reported that on Facebook.

In order to commit the crime, Russian special services involved Kharkiv resident who previously served with the National Guard of Ukraine. However, he was removed from active duty. The man received instructions during his short-term visit to Russia. Russian curators offered him a money reward for the murder.

SBU Chief Ivan Bakanov admitted that the operation to prevent the assassination attempt was the evidence of the SBU standing against the Russian special services. "The SBU counteracts threats in the bud instead of liquidating the consequences. Our actions confirm that. Counterintelligence, counter-terrorism, protection of the national security are the priorities that Ukrainian special service is geared to", Bakanov wrote.
