Prior to the meeting of the two leaders, Secretary of State for European affairs in the French government Clément Beaune assured that the forthcoming visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Paris on Friday, April 16, should not be taken as a signal of the country's prospect of joining the European Union. "You can have good relations with Ukraine, you can support Ukraine. And we, in particular, do it in the current difficult situation with Russia. But this does not mean accession to the EU. I do not think this is a serious prospect," Beaune said in an interview with French Jewish Radio on Thursday.
Ukraine's sovereignty is now in danger amidst the current large-scale build-up of Russian forces to the country's eastern and southern borders. Office of French President Emmanuel Macron reported that as quoted by AFP.
"Ukraine's sovereignty is under threat. All our work is aimed at avoiding an escalation and defusing tensions", teh French authority said.
As is known, President Volodymyr Zelensky and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron are supposed to negotiate on further solution of Donbas conflict on April 16. The talks are to take place in Elysee Palace. Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor is to join their conversation online.
