The NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov said that the state budget of Ukraine for 2019 provides for an increase in funding for defense and security tasks by almost USD 122 million in comparing with 2018 and provided for in the amount of USD 4,4 billion, which is 5.37 percent of the gross domestic product.
According to him, following the fulfillment of the state defense order in 2018, more than 3,000 pieces of armament, military equipment and special items, more than 450,000 missiles and ammunition were supplied to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
‘In 2019, a number of priority projects for the development of rocket and rocket-jet weapons will be completed,’ Turchynov noted.
He also added that this primarily relates to missiles with an increased range of destruction, a complex of ground-based cruise missiles for the destruction of naval targets, which ‘will greatly enhance the coastal defense of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.’
‘Prospective developments and production of weapons and military equipment, heavy howitzer artillery, air defense and communications equipment, armored vehicles will be supported, the production of ammunition and shells will be expanded,’ the Secretary said.
It is noteworthy that on December 26, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine endorsed the decision to impose sanctions against Russian physical and legal entities for holding unlawful elections on the occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as the Russian aggression near the Kerch Strait.
