The Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea has initiated 20 criminal proceedings in connection with the damage to the ecology of Crimea caused by the occupation authorities. This was announced by the head of the department of supervision over the observance of laws Serhiy Turchin during an online discussion "How to bring to justice those who destroy the environment in the occupied Crimea", published by the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center on Facebook.

"In particular, to date, in the work process of both the police and the SBU, there are 20 episodes of criminal actions in the field of environmental protection, on which a pre-trial investigation is being carried out," Turchin said.

According to him, we can talk about such crimes as, for example, the illegal volume of mining in Crimea.

Turchin clarified that criminal acts on the territory of the peninsula are classified under Articles 236 (Violation of environmental safety rules) to 240 (Violation of rules for the protection or use of subsoil) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The facts under Art. 241 (Air pollution), 238 (Violation of customs and laws of war) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine are being considered.

The prosecutor's office official also noted that the main problem faced by his department in finding the evidence base for these crimes is the lack of access to the crime scenes in Crimea.
