President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker in the framework of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, the press service of the President reported.
They discussed the latest developments in Donbas and the prospects for the deployment of a multinational peacekeeping mission under UN auspices on the occupied territories in Donbas.
Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the field of security and defense between Ukraine and USA, as well as interaction on further implementation of reforms in our country.
Kurt Volker also informed the Ukrainian President of increasing the sanctions pressure against the Russian Federation, in particular including 12 more Russian companies into the list of sanctions, according to the press service.
The Special Representative has also handed over a symbolic printed copy of the declaration by the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo dated July 25, 2018, which envisages clear and unequivocal position of the United States regarding the non-recognition of the illegal annexation of the Ukrainian Crimea by the Russian Federation.
"In that declaration, Secretary of State Pompeo said that the United States does not and will not accept Russia’s annexation of Crimea," Kurt Volker said and solemnly presented a copy of the declaration to the President of Ukraine.
As we reported earlier, Poroshenko said during addressed the delegates with a speech, as he joined the 73rd UN General Assembly session. Among other messages he said that Ukraine needs UN peacekeepers to be deployed in Donbas.
