Ukraine's National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have busted the international weapon supply channel in this country, with the weapons, explosives and spare parts coming from abroad. Viktor Kononenko, the Deputy Head of the State Security Service said that at a briefing in Kyiv.
'On April 18, the Service and the National Police ceased the activity of a criminal gang, which used the aid of foreign assistance to illegally bring firearms to Ukraine. The investigation found out that a resident of Kyiv set the supply channel, receiving spare parts for handguns and assault rifles from the U.S. and Europe', he said.
The guns were disassembled before the arrival in Ukraine; in Kyiv, they would be assembled for further sale.
'We seized three machineguns, two assault rifles, seven SMGs, 30 pistols and revolvers, eight grenade launchers, 32 grenades, five landmines, over 3,000 cartridges and spare parts for another 49 pistols. Kononenko added that the weapons were found in six houses and seven cars.
The investigation into the case is underway. The channel's organizer is charged with the illegal gun handling.
