August 29, Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation agreed to dismiss Yuriy Lutsenko from the post of Prosecutor General of Ukraine. The MPs adopted the corresponding draft resolution No. 1018, submitted by Ukraine’s President Zelensky.
According to Art. 42 of the Law "On the Prosecutor's Office," the Prosecutor General is dismissed by the President of Ukraine with the consent of the Verkhovna Rada.
Earlier today, Yuriy Lutsenko wrote a letter of resignation from his office. He has been serving as head of the Prosecutor General’s office since May 2016.
"Why do people not like the Prosecutor General's Office and Prosecutor General? Because they are waiting for the imprisoning of high-ranking corrupt officials, who are still in the offices. This does not belong to the duties of the Prosecutor General's Office, this is the work of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine... I did everything possible, I leave [this office] with a feeling of great pride for my country..."
