The access of Ukrainian and Russian Ombudsmen to the prisoners has to be synchronized and based on the principle of mutuality. Ukraine’s Ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova said this on air of 112 Ukraine TV channel.
“Our president has fulfilled all the agreements. He really lifted the access ban to Ukraine for Tatyana Moskalkova. However, all the rest requires synchronization and mutuality in actions. If I cannot get to our prisoners, then Mrs Moskalkova also cannot visit Russian prisoners in Ukraine,” she said.
Lyudmyla Denisova said she has come to Russia to visit Roman Sushchenko. She explained that all the timeframes for visiting him were cancelled the day before.
“They had four days to consider our address. However, yesterday they did not inform us. Our embassy has already filed a note to Russian Foreign Ministry and appealed to the Moscow city court and now we want to hand it over personally,” she noted.
She also commented on inconsistency in the schedules with her Russian counterpart.
“I speak with Mrs Moskalkova every day, every hour, but unfortunately, she does not decide the question of my access to our political prisoners. That’s why she knows all the plans, intentions, all the notes of Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to Russian Foreign Ministry, but when I propose something to her, she says has to coordinate it. And she cannot get permission from other institutions which have to make a decision coming from the agreement of the two presidents, Denisova noted.”
She added that despite the agreement of the presidents of both countries, Russia obstructs her visits to Ukrainian political prisoners.
As it was reported earlier, Ukrainian filmmaker imprisoned in Russia Oleg Sentsov has refused the proposition to be examined by the doctors proposed by his lawyer and relatives. Russian Ombudsman Russian Ombudsman said this upon coming to Kyiv.
Moskalkova also informed that she was planning to visit Ukrainian political prisoner as soon as she returns from Kyiv and given the permission she will go together with Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova.
