The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will support the ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, since he is a citizen of Ukraine. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba in a comment to the Dom TV channel.
"Saakashvili is our citizen. We will provide him with appropriate support. Today a representative of the Georgian Embassy will arrive at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine at our call. All this will be discussed with him. We protect every citizen of Ukraine when he gets into trouble," said Kuleba.
On the morning of October 1, Georgian ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili wrote on his Facebook page that he returned to his homeland after eight years. However, in the evening, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said that Saakashvili had been detained in Georgia by law enforcement officers and had already been taken to a penitentiary institution.
Later, the Office of the President of Ukraine said that they regard the detention of Mikheil Saakashvili in Tbilisi as revenge against him.
